Being a local Southern Highlands wedding photographer, we are spoilt for choice having some of the best wedding venues in the country right in our back yard. Having captured local weddings almost every week since buying our farm here in the Southern Highlands in 2009, I know the local the venues like the back of my hand. The magic of the Southern Highlands is that it’s constantly changing – the colours, landscape, light and mood, thanks to the distinct and glorious seasonal variety we are blessed with.
Be it a crisp winter morning; waking with a thick frost blanketing the vineyards in white, or the rich burgundy and crimson carpet of Autumnal leaves to marry upon, you can’t go wrong choosing a Southern Highlands wedding venue for your special day.

Book Barn – Bendooley Estate – Berrima
Situated amongst the grapevines is Bendooley Book Barn, and, as the name suggests, as you step inside the Book Barn you are cocooned in a warm sanctuary of books. There is something special about sitting amongst rows and rows of beautiful books, that feeling of nostalgia just seems to relax everyone, and then the party starts! Outside the grounds are meticulous and lend themselves to wandering around at sunset for some photos around the lake or by the historic homestead. If rolling hills cascading down to the perfect symmetry of a well established vineyard is your type of place, you have found your perfect spot in Centennial Vineyards. Peppers Craigieburn in Bowral is the ideal spot to marry if you want to make a weekend of it. The lads can have a round of golf on the onsite course before tying the knot in the manicured gardens, and all your guests can stay the weekend in the attached accommodation and take time to enjoy everything the Southern Highlands has to offer. When you can have your whole guest list staying at the same place you get ready, hold your ceremony, take photo’s and party into the night for the reception you know its going to be a good combo. Sitting on the edge of the rolling hills that lead to the golf course is the sleek and modern venue. Great location just outside the township of Bowral in the Southern Highlands. Borrowing golf carts to hoon around on during our photoshoot is pretty memorable.
Grand Bistro at Wombat Hollow – Kangaloon
If a rustic Aussie Bushland setting is your ideal Southern Highlands wedding venue then be sure to take a look at Wombat Hollow. Situated in the quiet little village of Kangaloon this property feels like a step back in time, to the days when Ned Kelly roamed the country. Hillview Heritage Hotel – Sutton Forest
Hillview Heritage Hotel is just as it sounds. Situated on a large hill with amazing views around the Southern Highlands in Sutton Forest is this old hotel that was a holiday retreat for the former Vice Regal in 1882. And you can enjoy the same views he did, with 360 degree panoramic vistas of rolling country side. Perfect spot for having a glass of wine and watching the sunset with your nearest and dearest. Hopewood House was built in 1884, and is set amongst beautiful sprawling gardens, with a new garden ‘room’ around every corner. It doesn’t matter what time of the year you celebrate here, there’s always something sensational growing in the gardens. This place feels like my second home, and what a place it is! Greg and Shelley are constantly adding to their farm, it’s hard to believe that the stunning reception barn was once an old hay shed! If the weather is grim don’t fret, they have a purpose built Ceremony Pavillon to keep everyone dry and warm, without missing out on the spectacular views through the gumtrees down to the dam. Montrose Berry Farm – Sutton Forest
You might be lucky enough to have tasted some jam (or a berry pie) made with the delicious berries grown here at Montrose Berry Farm. With relaxed picnic vibes there is plenty of room for you and your guests to hang out on the grass and eat cheese, drink wine and play a game of chess or wander under the glorious old deciduous trees. Peppers Manor House – Sutton Forest
Driving down the drive you really could convince yourself you are arriving at a Manor House in the English countryside. You are spoilt here with country charm, historic buildings, gorgeous gardens, golf course and a tennis court! With 80 acres of farm to enjoy this working orchard is set in the village of Tallong, which was once one of the biggest (and best) fruit producers in the state. This is the last remaining orchard following the devastating fires that came through over 50years ago. The onsite Homeley Homestead, is a fantastic rustic Bnb and the Old Apple Packing Shed is the perfect spot for DIY weddings with a relaxed country feel. The Robertson Hotel – Robertson
In a historic (and rumour has it haunted) old hotel situated in the beautiful town of Robertson is the Robertson Hotel. This place has all the rooms available to house all your guests, a beautiful manicured garden to celebrate the day and cosy fireplaces to make a winter wedding in the Southern Highlands something to remember. The Stables – Bendooley Estate – Berrima
Set within the paddocks of Bendooley estate, their brand new venue The Stables will blow you away. The architecture of the venue is a photographers dream, and while you don’t need to go past the front doors to get amazing photos, the grounds are stunning too with gardens and long grassed paddocks. Sylvan Glen Country House – Penrose
Sylvan Glen Country House is the place you go to hang out with your entire guest list for the weekend. Sylvan Glen has the family feel that will draw you in and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. You’ll find Sylvan Glen in Penrose in the Southern end of the Southern Highlands.
