Lorin + Matt | The Orchard Farm Southern Highlands

As a Wedding Photographer, I’ve come across all sorts of brides and grooms, the super excited, stressed, organised, unorganised, anxious, relaxed. But Lorin and Matt easily take the cake for the most chilled out, easy going couple I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They first actually came into contact with me asking if they could get married on our families property, The Orchard Farm, a country wedding just down the road from their home in Wingello.

So a few months ago I walked them around the farm. This was when the Old Apple Packing Shed had been used as an interim storage spot for excess furniture (and junk) while we renovated. I said sorry about that – Matt said no worries. We walked out the back down the steps to where the marquees and fire bins are. A pesky wombat had continually been digging up there, leaving mounds of dirt around. Sorry I said – Matt said no dramas. This continued on, we had no rain for 6 months so the grass all browned off and died. They understood. Another wombat dug under the verandah of Homeley Homestead, the Bnb and the concrete collapsed. They weren’t worried.

And this is why Matt and Lorins’ attitude was so great, because they could see past the day. They knew that not matter what, rain, hail, dust storm or heat wave they were waking up on the 16th of March as boyfriend and girlfriend, and by bed time they would be husband and wife. And you know what? Everything turned out just perfectly. We got some beautiful drenching rain 2 weeks before the wedding so the farm greened up. The wombat finally got sick of us refilling in his burrow and moved on (for now – fingers crossed), giving us literally just enough hours to lay new concrete and for it to harden. Matt and Lorin and their family and friends managed to have everything set up with ease by mid afternoon the day before, meaning no late night stresses and were able to have the night off, and relax and unwind before the big day.

The wonderful Sue Jackman married them under the awesome gumtree arbour Matt knocked together (with minimum fuss the day before), adorned with beautiful native flowers that Lorin and her friends had put together. It was a great DIY wedding, from the flowers and styling to the 70 pots of jam Matts’ mum made as wedding favours. South Coast Party Hire set up the lounging marquee  and ‘A Class Catering’ cooked up a storm on the barbies. We all headed into the Apple Packing shed to eat, hear great speeches and then dance under the old tin roof. Luckily it wasn’t a total fire ban so the fire bins were lit and everyone (true to Matt and Lorins style) chilled out and relaxed under the stars, celebrating the new Mr and Mrs Turner.
