Sometimes the best memories are made when things don’t quite go to plan. Take Kerri and Lucas’ bush turn beach wedding I captured on Sunday, of the October long weekend.
I’d first chatted to Kerri and Lucas at the start of last year, when they were telling me of their plans to wed at the stunning Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat . As we all know, that horror summer saw that gorgeous venue destroyed by bushfire, along with Kerri and Lucas’ dream wedding plans. So they picked themselves up and made new plans for a spring wedding up the coast at Raffertys Resort at Lake Macquarie. And then the world got turned upside down with Covid virus. So the wedding 2.0 was also put on hold.
Fast forward to the long weekend, and I was down the south coast at Milton, Ulladulla with my family when Bel passed me my phone. A text message from Kerri was asking if I was free on Sunday for an impromptu wedding? So we packed up and drove the two and a half hours home, dropping the kids and the dog and Bel back to the farm in Tallong, between the Southern Highlands and Goulburn. I grabbed my cameras and headed back up the highway for the two hour trip to Mahon Pools in Maroubra to shoot Lucas and Kerri finally becoming husband and wife! Wedding 3.0 was happening!
But it was the most gorgeous ceremony, intimate, warm, funny and memorable. Kerri looked radiant in a gorgeous summer dress from Forever New with hair and make up by Blow Bar Bronte. I had the pleasure of working for the first time with the wonderful Marry Us Gary, who was recommended by their initial celebrant Married by Todd, and the first sunset of daylight savings for the year was a winner. Surrounded by just a few nearest and dearest, Kerri and Lucas pledged themselves to each other. As the sun went down they wandered back along the beach before heading to a nearby restaurant in Cogee to toast to their new marriage.

Kerri and Lucas are planning to head to Canada where they hope to have another celebration. I’m pretty keen to capture their 4.0 wedding over there, so keep me posted guys!!

Congrats and thanks so much for being so cool and laid back. Hope your marriage is as fun and relaxed as your wedding day was!
