Kayla and Chris – Goulburn Farm Wedding
Being behind the lens and behind the scenes on the wedding day often allows me a brief glimpse into the lives’ of the couples that I shoot. I get to see their raw emotions leading up to the ceremony, the nerves, the jitters, the laughs. But it’s also a unique day, an occasion for usually solemn and shy people to let down their guards and tell people how they really feel. And I am not taking about the Bride and Groom. I refer to the Fathers of the Brides, the Mothers of the the groom, the ‘big’ Sisters, the ‘baby’ Brothers, the proud Uncles and Aunts, the doting God parents, the happy Grandparents. For Kayla and Chris, their wedding had a strong family focus. Kayla chose to get ready for the big day at her grandparent’s house, a simple yet thoughtful way to show her grandparents how special they are to her. Chris woke up at his Mum and Dads, spending the morning with his extended family.
Kayla convinced her Mum, Dad and bridesmaid Nadine to drive up with her to the Sydney Flower Markets 3am the Thursday before the wedding, returning to Goulburn with the car loaded with 8 bucket loads of flowers. They made all the stunning bouquets, boutonnieres, and floral arrangements themselves!
Chris and Kayla chose the historical Old Coach Stables just up the road in Gunning as their venue. Handmade signs created by Kayla’s brother Matthew welcomed the guests into the ceremony gardens, and Kayla walked down the rose lined aisle looking stunning in her Stella York gown. Those who know me know that I am a sucker for a good rolling hill, and The Old Coach Stables delivered, with beautiful gums dotted amongst the paddocks.
Great speeches, great macarons, great dancing followed and all too soon I was back in the ute and on my way home to my family. To Kayla and Chris, thanks for letting me into your two families – on the day they became one!
